The Cohort

A year in the foundations — yourself, your body, the land, your relationships

Ground Before Anything Grows

This is for women who are carrying more than they have ground to hold.

You have probably done a great deal of work already: modalities, teachers, trainings, books, retreats. Some of it helped, and then stopped helping, and you were left wondering whether the problem was you.

What was missing is that the ground underneath wasn't yet strong enough to hold what was set on top of it. This is the most consistent thing I have seen in thirty years of practice: healing doesn't hold when the ground can't hold it. You can do precise, skillful work and watch it dissolve within days, because the field that would keep it in place is too thin.

Ground is not a state you reach and then have. It's a living relational field – with yourself, with your body, with the land you live on, with your ancestors, with the people around you. When it's thin, everything you build on it crumbles. When it grows, things you have been straining to carry become, simply, carried.

I want to be plain about what this year is and isn't. It’s about remembering and becoming, which happen at the same time, and which are slower and far less dramatic than growth. What we do here is tend. We tend ourselves. We tend our bodies. We tend the Land. We tend our relationships. Ground comes from tending. It has never once come from effort.

A Year, Because the Year Is the Teacher

There's a way of living inside time that most of us were never offered.

Time as you've been given it is a line you fall behind on. There is always a next thing, and the next thing is late. Under that arrangement, rest has to be earned and defended, and you come home wrung out and wired — too depleted to do anything, too keyed up to actually rest.

The year works differently. It doesn't move in a line. It turns. There is a season for going down and a season for coming out, a season for tending the dark and a season for standing in the light, and none of them is behind. Eight times a year we meet at the thresholds where the year turns, and we mark it. Not a class about ritual. Ritual itself — the practice of standing in a particular moment of the year, in a body, in a place, and letting that moment do what it does.

What most women find is that after a few turns, the year stops being something they are living through and becomes something they are living with. Their own rhythm comes back into view. The relationship with the place they live changes. Rituals of their own start to arrive — not borrowed, not performed, but theirs, arising from what they are actually in relationship with.

This is why it's a year and not a course. A year is the smallest unit this work comes in.

Discover Belonging in This Room

The same women, all year.

Ground isn't only yours. A group tending it together across a year builds something none of you would build alone, and all of you get to stand on it. Conversation starts deep because nobody has to work up to it. And the women beside you will notice what has changed in you before you do, because they were there when it hadn't.

You will not be asked to explain yourself here, or to translate what you perceive into something more acceptable. Nothing you bring will be treated as strange. Much of what you have kept private, you have kept private for good reasons, and you keep the right to those reasons — but you'll be in a room where you don't need them.

The Courses

You'll walk five courses across the year. Each one falls in the season that carries it, because the material and the season are doing the same work. What follows is what each is for, and where it sits in the turning.

What’s Included in the Year

  • The Courses, plus group integration sessions. The full curriculum, taken in the season each one belongs to. The integration sessions are with your own group, where you bring your experience of the work and the questions that only arrive after you've lived it.

  • Wheel of the Year Ritual Gathering, 8x per year, online. Not a class about ritual. We gather to ground in ritual through the turning year, and to embody place more deeply.

  • Quarterly 1:1 sessions with Ro, 4x per year. Time with me at each turn of the season, to look at what's actually arising in your life and what's most supportive for you right now. You'll leave with a practice prescription, revisited each quarter as you change.

  • In-person Retreat, June 2027. The one time we're all in the same place. Location TBD. Lodging and food are not included.

  • A community of aligned women who are doing the same work alongside you.
