This Season’s Invitation

The turning of the year asks us to notice what our culture has taught us to overlook.

We live inside a way of life that can make it remarkably difficult to feel ourselves as participants in the living world. The rhythms of light and dark, growth and decline, ripening and release continue moving through the Land and through our bodies, whether or not we have learned how to recognize them. The Overculture teaches us to organize life around clocks, productivity, and human concerns, while the older rhythms that once helped people locate themselves within Place become increasingly faint.

And yet our bodies have not forgotten.

As we approach the Autumnal Equinox, we deepening into the season of harvest. This is a time for taking stock of what has grown, receiving what has ripened, and feeling the losses that become visible when we finally stop long enough to look. Gratitude and grief often rise together here. Both belong to harvest.

This turning also begins to draw our attention toward those who came before us. Across European cultures, harvest was held within relationships—with Land, with community, with the dead, and with generations still to come. The ancestors were part of the living ecology of belonging.

In this free teaching, we’ll locate ourselves within the seasonal movement of autumn and explore what this threshold is asking of the body. We’ll work with harvest as a practice of attention: noticing what has ripened, what is being released, and what deserves both gratitude and grief.

And we’ll begin turning toward the ancestors—not as an abstract spiritual idea, but as part of the longer field of relationship into which each of us was born. Through teaching, embodied practice, and a simple seasonal ritual, we’ll explore how recovering these older ways of participation can help us grow Ground, deepen belonging, and meet the descent into the darker half of the year with greater capacity.

We can learn to participate in these relationships again.

We can renew these connections.

In this class we’ll explore:

  • Why gratitude and grief belong together at harvest — and what becomes possible when we allow ourselves to receive what has ripened while also acknowledging what has been lost, unfinished, or must now be released.

  • How the seasonal descent is felt in the body and why learning to recognize these shifts can help us meet change with greater Ground and Capacity rather than pushing against the natural movement of the year.

  • How harvest opens the ancestral season and why our relationship with those who came before us is part of a much larger ecology of belonging to Land, Place, community, and generations.

  • What European earth-honoring traditions can teach us about reciprocity, remembrance, and participation without needing to recreate the past or adopt practices that are not ours.

And a simple embodied practice and harvest ritual
for meeting this threshold in your own life and beginning the darker half of the year in relationship rather than isolation.

Harvest Season and the Ancestors

Harvest asks us to pause long enough to notice what the year has actually made of us.

At the Autumnal Equinox, light and dark come briefly into balance before the year begins its deeper descent. This is a threshold for taking stock: receiving what has ripened, grieving what has been lost, and allowing what is complete to begin returning to the earth.

It is also the beginning of the ancestral season—a time when our awareness naturally turns toward the lives, relationships, and lineages that extend beyond the boundaries of the individual self.

Together we’ll explore this turning through seasonal teaching, embodied practice, and ritual, making space for gratitude and grief to become part of a larger experience of belonging.

Our time together will explore:

We’ll locate ourselves within the turning of the year and work with the body as our ground for meeting this threshold.

Through seasonal teaching, somatic practice, and a simple harvest ritual, we’ll begin turning toward the ancestors as part of the larger ecology of belonging—and leave with a practice you can carry into the weeks ahead as the year descends toward darkness.

Teacher

Ro Marlen

Wisdom teacher, spiritual guide, and teacher of embodied ancestral practice

Ro Marlen has spent more than thirty years studying how human beings heal, orient, belong, and participate wisely in the living world. Her work draws from European ancestral wisdom, earth-honoring cosmologies, somatic practice, seasonal rhythm, and decades of direct experience accompanying people through periods of profound change.

At the center of her teaching is a simple understanding: we are not separate from the places, seasons, bodies, relationships, and larger living systems in which our lives unfold. Much of what modern culture treats as an individual problem becomes more understandable when we restore these relationships and learn again how to listen to the body, the Land, and the rhythms that have always shaped human life.

Here to guide those who live at the threshold

Ro works especially with people who are highly sensitive, spiritually attuned, and aware that the dominant culture asks them to live in ways that do not feel entirely human. She calls them Thresholders—people who often sense both what is and what might yet become possible.

Her teaching helps people cultivate Ground and Capacity so they can meet life as it is, remain in relationship with what they love, and participate more fully in the places and communities to which they belong.

Through Sacred Evolutions Wisdom School, Ro teaches seasonal wisdom, embodied spirituality, ancestral practice, and the skills of belonging needed for a life lived in deeper relationship with body, Land, Place, and the living world.
